Tibetan Music

Shen Nung Xi River Gorge Music

Kangding - I bought this VCD in Kangding, China. Our guide helped me pick out the most popular one in the area. The videos are beautiful, showing traditional dress and dances.

"Tibetan people are adept singers and dancers. People often get together
for a song and a dance whether they are working in the farm or having some
leisure time. The most common Tibetan dance is called 'guozhuang' in
Chinese and 'zhuo' in Tibetan. It is a kind of group dance, with a dozen or a
couple of dozens of people forming a dancing circle. One person will be the
lead singer while the whole group sing along. The dancing steps and styles
vary according to the changing tune and rhythm of the song. Upon Tibetan
festivals, people will dress in traditional festive costumes, drink
Tibetan wine, and dance around fire till dawn. Listen, the bold mountain song,
the passionate drum - the cheerful 'guozhuang' has begun..."
