Creating a Mobile to Compare Ancient
Civilizations - Culminating Project
Assignments to hand in: Brainstorming Ideas for a Mobile Chart, The Mobile (direction sheet here), & Mobile Project Evaluation sheet
Introduction: This is the culminating project for the Ancient Egypt and the Near East Unit. You will be creating a mobile that answers the following questions:
How were civilizations of ancient Egypt and the Near East similar and different?
All the information that has been covered is to be used in this project. You are looking for information on Babylonia, Israel, and Egypt (You choose TWO of them to compare/constrast). Before doing anything, download and read the directions and look over the evaluation sheet! Then, start reviewing your previous work, looking at the website information in this unit, re-reading your textbook, and viewing some of the streaming video the class watched in the past.
Step 1: Look at the Example of a Mobile. Read the Direction/Overview sheet. You MUST stay focused on answering the question written above by following the Steps for Completing Your Mobile! This is your ultimate objective here.
Step 2: By referring to the assignments and information we have covered in this unit, complete the Brainstorming Ideas for a Mobile Chart. The topics to compare/contrast are as follows:
Belief Systems (Religions)
Cultural Achievements

Step 3: Start creating your mobile. Use the Layout for a Mobile handout to write or create your titles, differences/similarities cards (same card with differences on one side and similarities on the other side), and visuals (pictures, drawings).
Step 4: Assemble your mobile. You may use the materials suggested in the directions or you may choose your own. (Such as, use wood sticks or other substitutes for your mobile.) Make sure you keep referring to the Evaluation form.
Step 5: Find another classmate to fill out the "Student Assessment" portion of your Evaluation form. They need to sign it in the right hand corner.
