Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Unit Overview:
Overview: The
Israeli-Palestinian Conflict is very complicated. There are many different
opinions and perspectives on this issue. This area of the world has seen
violence and war for thousands of years. Unfortunately, the violence and
arguments continue without an end in sight. It's now up to you as a student of
Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School of Coventry to see the conflict from an individual perspective/role and as an objective outsider working to bring a viable
solution for peace to the area.
Complete the Web-Quest of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict to better understand
the different sides and perspectives involved.
Research from a role/perspective: You will research the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict from the perspective of the role you have been assigned. For example, if you were assigned to be a Palestinian Refugee in Jordan, you will research the issue as this person would see the conflict. Use the Research: Helpful Links webpage to help you find the information you need to understand the conflict as if you were the person you are assigned. Also, use this Research Graphic Organizer to take notes and form your argument.
Write a Persuasive Position Statement: Use your research to write a speech to give in front of the United Nations Commission for Israeli-Palestinian Peace. This speech will work to educate the members of the Commission about the conflict from your eyes and propose a solution that works for you. Remember, you are writing as if you are the role you have been assigned. You are trying to convince the world of how you see the conflict and what you see as a solution to the situation.
United Nations Commission for Israeli-Palestinian Peace Member: Each student will also serve on this commission when they are not giving their persuasive speech. In this role, you need to be objective, like you were a citizen of the U.S. without a direct interest in this region of the world. You need to take notes (Graphic Organizer) and listen to each side or perspective. You will be asked to come up with a long-term, viable solution for peace in the area.
