Summary:

In 367 BC, 17 year old Aristotle left home for Athens and began a life-long search to understand the world and his place in it. The questions he asked, and the answers he reached, have profoundly influenced Western thought through the present day. From ethics to logic to the natural sciences, Aristotle left no field unexplored and those efforts earned him recognition as one of the greatest philosophers of all time. He began his quest to understand the world at the Academy--ancient Athens' premier school for philosophers. There, he studied under another great thinker, Plato, whose philosophy focused on the idea of a perfect, but unattainable, reality. Aristotle questioned Plato's theories and developed his own, more worldly beliefs--beliefs that relied on a closely examining reality as we know it. No matter the accuracy of some of his theories, Aristotle's work laid a foundation for rigorous questioning and philosophical thought.   TVPG  cc
