Video: Secrets of the Colosseum

Summary:

The program rebuilds the world's first great sports arena, the Roman Colosseum. Built over 10 years, it is a triumph of Roman architecture and engineering techniques. Massive blocks of travertine stone held by cramp irons are the primary building materials of the arena. Concrete, brick work and light weight lava rocks from Vesuvius are also an important part of the design. Using computer-generated graphics, the program reviews the process it took to erect this gigantic building.
