World History Timeline Assignment

Significant Events in World History Timeline Assignment

Overview: Each student will be assigned a Significant Event (click for the list) within our World History Curriculum. You will research your event in your textbook, Media Center resources, and online (Be careful to use valid sites - check with your teacher) Your work will be posted around the classroom, so please pay careful attention to presentation.

Step 1: Significant Event -Choose a Significan Event in World History (click link to see the list) Only one person can cover a topic. All must have different significant events. More than likely, you will NOT get your first choice, so be prepared.

Step 2: Research - Use the World History Timeline Assignment Graphic Organizer [Word Version] to complete your research. Use the Media Center encyclopedias and the Internet to find the summary information.

Step 3: Summary - Write a 150-word summary why this event is significant to our world’s history. Include the setting this event took place in and how it has impacted the world then and now. You will share this with the class.

Step 4: Illustration - On an 8x11 sheet of blank white paper, create an illustration of this significant historical event. You might include pictures, clipart, famous quotes, and more. This white paper is to be matted on a piece of construction paper. ***Your picture(s) MUST be large so that they can be seen from across the classroom. (See examples of student work below)

Step 5: Date(s) – Type the date or dates in “Rockwell Extra-Bold” (72 Font Size) in Landscape printing format. For example: 1000 – 500 B.C.E.

Examples of Previous Student Work (What TO DO and what NOT TO DO):

Control of Fire - Student Work Example #1 - While neat and matted, this images are too small to see from across the classroom.

Student Example - Control of Fire Example #2 - The pictures in this one are larger and easier to see, yet TWO would be enough: One of the past and one of the present day use.

Good Luck!
